Philanthropic Focus

The Divas of Lambda Pi Upsilon look forward to working for and with children in need. The Six Pillars of Strength believed that children are the key to our future hence it is our duty to aid academically, financially and via hands-on interactions always Con Amor, Dignidad Y Orgullo!

Recently, we realized the connection between children and asthma awareness. The passing of one of our members led us to research Asthma affects on women, specifically women of color.  That research brought to light the fact that Asthma is deadly to women in addition to effecting more than 300,000 children yearly.

We conducted further research to highlight our philanthropic focus of assisting children and providing asthma awareness. Please read the facts about children & asthma.

Quick Facts about Children & Asthma
[provided by the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America -AAFA]

Among children ages 5 to 17, asthma is the leading cause of school absences from a chronic illness. It accounts for an annual loss of more than 14 million school days per year (approximately 8 days for each student with asthma) and more hospitalizations than any other childhood disease. It is estimated that children with asthma spend nearly 8 million days per year restricted to bed.

Nearly half (44%) of all asthma hospitalizations are for children.

Asthma is the third-ranking cause of children hospitalization.

The death rate for children under 19 years old has increased by nearly 80% percent since 1980.

As an organization we promise to do the best we could to create asthma awareness so that those who need assistance can do all that they can to seek medical attention.

In February 2005, we recognized Asthma Awareness as our National Philanthropy. Visit the following organizations and assist LPiU with contributing annually in our efforts to raise awareness for Asthma.
